Christian or not, you've probably heard the Ten Commandments and maybe even abided by them. But there's a few rules from the Bible that don't come up in conversation that often. Maybe it's because they're obsolete today but it's still fun to look back and see what was condemnable 2000 years ago.



1. Tattoos

"You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the Lord." (Leviticus 19:28)

2. Cheeseburgers

"It is a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings: you shall not eat any fat or any blood." (Leviticus 3:17)

3. The pull-out method

"Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother's wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother. But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord; so He took his life also." (Genesis 38:9-10)

4. Wearing gold

"Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments." (1 Timothy 2:9)

5. Shellfish

6. Fortune telling

"Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God." (Leviticus 19:31)

7. Saddles, or anything else made of pigskin

"and the pig, for though it divides the hoof, thus making a split hoof, it does not chew cud, it is unclean to you.You shall not eat of their flesh nor touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you." (Leviticus 11:7-8)

8. Bowl cuts

"You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard." (Leviticus 19:27)

9. Stressed jeans

"Then Moses said to Aaron and to his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, Do not uncover your heads nor tear your clothes, so that you will not die and that He will not become wrathful against all the congregation." (Leviticus 10:6)

10. Animals as pets

"Also whatever walks on its paws, among all the creatures that walk on all fours, are unclean to you; whoever touches their carcasses becomes unclean until evening, and the one who picks up their carcasses shall wash his clothes and be unclean until evening; they are unclean to you." (Leviticus 11:28-29)

11. Women speaking in church

"The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says. If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church." (1 Corinthians 14:34-35)

12. Fabric blends

"You are to keep My statutes. You shall not...wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together." (Leviticus 19:19)

13. Vegetable gardens

"You shall not... sow your field with two kinds of seed" (Leviticus 3:19)
