People Share The 'Unwritten Rules' They Believe Society Should Live By

We're all in this together. Well... most of us sincerely believe that. We just all need to be on the same page about certain things.

That was the basis for today's burning question from Redditor TakinShots, who asked the online community: What "unwritten rule" do you think more people should live by?

Here are a few. You might find yourself nodding in agreement.

"I grew up around a rural area..."

I grew up around a rural area, "open a gate, shut a gate." This of course has to do with livestock, but I have extrapolated it to mean, if I use something that is not mine, unless I am told differently, I put it back exactly where I found it.

"Be quiet..."

Be quiet when someone is sleeping. Like, pretend you are the one who's sleeping.

lolipop3k

"Don't accept..."

Don't accept criticism from somebody you wouldn't take advice from.

ablizzardofdinner

"You never know..."

You never know what someone is going through or the type of day someone is having, so just be kind.

LamarEdwards

"Be always honest..."

Be always honest with your feelings towards someone who you like, or likes you. Don't lie just because you are afraid or feel bad you might hurt someone.

If you aren't honest when you should be, it will get worse for you and the other/s person/people and it won't end well, or, at least, worse than it could have been.

DevilSP21

"For the love of god..."

Giphy

For the love of god, chew with your mouth closed.

gqhug

"Take note..."

Take note of closing times or pick up on clues that a business is closing, respect that and promptly get out.

Nicola162

"Headphones mean..."

Headphones mean I don't want to engage right now. If I'm not on fire, please don't shout past the headphones. If you yank them off to talk to me, I will actively set you on fire.

Arithered

"If a kid..."

If a kid shows you something, be excited as they are, ask questions, and say how pretty or awesome it is.

tinkrman

"This includes..."

Outside of "getting to your destination safely," your primary objective while driving should be to not inconvenience everybody behind you with your actions. This includes unnecessary braking before getting into the turn lane, stopping traffic to make a turn across a double yellow if there's a better intersection ahead, failure to maintain your speed on inclines and declines, and stopping the flow of traffic to be "polite," and the list goes on.... There is so much more to being a good driver than not texting, tailgating, and speeding. Try not to be noticed at all.

Quetzalcoaxial

"Stop talking..."

Stop talking on your cell phone in a public place. If you need to make a call (except for emergencies), excuse yourself to a place where you won't bother anyone. Especially at work; it's so rude to make coworkers around you hear your conversation while they're trying to get things done.

Jewel94

"Always protect children."

Giphy

Always protect children. Any child any time.

Not spoil them but actually value them enough to invest in their education and protect them from abusers and molesters.

Ethelfleda

"The pinkie promise."

The pinkie promise. Yeah, it seems stupid to say, but it'd be nice to have some sort of unbreakable bond as adults like we do as kids.

MedalistheBest

"Pain can either transform you..."

Pain can either transform you or transfer through you. Grow or hurt others, those are pretty much your options.

dreadpiraterobers92

"When you reach 'expert' level..."

When you reach 'expert' level in anything remember you went through a 'Day 1' so be kind to others who are not yet on your level.

enikeji

"Apologize to custodians..."

Apologize to custodians and those alike if you walk right through where they just cleaned. Or if able, just don't walk where someone JUST cleaned. It makes me feel so bad each time I do it, being that it rains here kind of a lot and herds of college students leave a ton of wet shoe marks on the floor, but they seem appreciative if I apologize profusely for doing it.

Sagethewolfblooded

"Being nice..."

Being nice is free. So don't be an a-hole.

misseu

"If you're using..."

If you're using the microwave when your family is sleeping, you should instantly yeet whatever the fuck is in there one second before it makes the loudest noise you will hear.

autistOdysseys

"Never say no..."

Never say no to enthusiasm. My son is excited about a video game, I'll have him draw pictures of it. Write stories about it. We even wrote a 'how to play' instructional list for other kids who might want to play the game. Also, there was a Mom at my child's school who wanted to do a passive fundraiser. They said no. What??! If she's happy to run it what's the harm. There is ALWAYS a way to incorporate what people are enthusiastic about. It's apathy we're fighting.

twodesserts

"If you have to keep something..."

If you have to keep something a secret because it would upset those close to you, you probably shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

Fame always come with a price!

Fame is a tricky, tricky mistress. It can be intoxicating and make you crave it; until it ruins you or until it does you right. And thanks to cable television and the internet anyone can be famous for literally anything and nothing all at once. Who knew being a "Meme" could garner you a fan club? What does one do with that sort of fame.

Redditor u/AnswersOddQuestions wanted to hear from those who are part of Meme fame by asking.... People who have had their pictures end up as memes. How has it affected your life?

I wanna be Memed!
